Dear Eugenia and Wabi Team,
I'm Gary Sheng, and I want to help build Wabi's ecosystem from the ground up.
Wabi is building "YouTube for apps"—democratizing software creation for everyone, regardless of coding skills. This is exactly the kind of transformation I've spent my career accelerating. I recently graduated top of my class from Gauntlet AI, I'm a power user of AI-assisted creation tools, and I have a proven track record growing ecosystems and creating educational content that drives adoption.
Why I'm the Right Fit for Ecosystem / User Education / Growth
I've Built Ecosystems from Early Stages
I know how to grow communities around emerging technologies:
- Gitcoin ecosystem: Grew Gitcoin Passport from 200,000 to 1M users through strategic community engagement, educational content, and feedback loops that informed product development
- Zuzalu network: Organized Edge City Denver 2024—a seven-day event with 3,000+ attendees and 4.6/5 satisfaction. Our Telegram became the nerve center of the entire ETHDenver conference
- Other ecosystems: Civics Unplugged (2,000+ across 70+ countries), Dancing Pineapple (110,000+ subscribers)
I understand how to activate early adopters, create feedback loops, and build communities where users become evangelists.
I Create Educational Content That Drives Adoption
User education is what turns curious visitors into active creators. I've done this repeatedly:
- Published documentation that educated thousands of early users for Naval Ravikant's startup
- Created event guides that made complex experiences navigable
- Filmed and uploaded hundreds of videos across platforms (130k followers on TikTok)
- Forbes 30 Under 30 for creating content that drives measurable impact
I know how to create tutorials, demos, and guides that make new technologies feel approachable rather than intimidating. For Wabi, this means showing users exactly how to go from idea to functional mini app, how to remix others' creations, and how to share within the community.
I Understand How to Grow User Bases
Growth isn't just about numbers—it's about creating the conditions where users feel compelled to create, share, and invite others:
- I understand how to reach different user segments (creators vs consumers, early adopters vs mainstream)
- I know how to design programs that activate communities (like Wabi's social layer and collaboration features)
- I've worked with developers, educators, civic innovators, and culture communities—I understand different user psychologies
For Wabi specifically, I'd focus on:
- Creating showcase examples that inspire ("look what's possible")
- Building creator education programs (from beginner to power user)
- Designing remix challenges and collaborative campaigns
- Developing user stories that show Wabi's personal software vision
- Establishing feedback loops that inform product iteration
I'm a Beneficiary of AI-Assisted Creation
I use AI-assisted tools like Cursor and Claude every single day. I've built applications, created content, and experienced firsthand the transformative shift when creation tools become intuitive. I'm not just theoretically excited about Wabi's vision—I've lived it.
I understand what makes AI-assisted creation magical: the moment when someone realizes they can build something they thought was impossible. That's the feeling Wabi needs every new user to experience, and I know how to create the educational content and community infrastructure to deliver that consistently.
I Bring Technical Credibility + Community Building
I started my career as a Software Engineer at Google Cloud from 2015 to 2019, leading a small team. I understand how software gets built. But more importantly, I understand how to make software creation accessible to non-technical users—that's what I did with Civics Unplugged, teaching thousands of youth to use emerging tools regardless of technical background.
My Vision for This Role
Wabi is in private beta with $20M pre-seed and strong backing. This is the critical moment to:
- Build the ecosystem infrastructure: Creator programs, community spaces, collaboration frameworks
- Create world-class user education: From first app creation to advanced remixing, every user journey should feel magical
- Drive growth through authentic adoption: Showcase creators, amplify use cases, make Wabi's vision tangible
My life's work centers on democratizing human flourishing. Wabi is democratizing software creation—removing barriers so anyone can build apps as easily as making a playlist. That's the exact mission I want to accelerate.
I'm ready to build Wabi's ecosystem from the ground up, create the educational content that turns users into creators, and drive growth that makes "YouTube for apps" a reality.
Let's make personal software accessible to everyone.
