Dear Shayne and the Polymarket Team,
My name is Gary Sheng. I'm an AI engineer and movement builder with a proven track record of turning emerging technologies into thriving ecosystems.
After witnessing Polymarket's transformative impact on the 2024 election and beyond, I'm excited to apply for the Developer Relations Manager position to help scale what I believe is one of the most practically useful projects in the world.
Why I'm the Right Fit
I'm a Developer Who Understands the Modern Developer Experience
I started my career as a Software Engineer at Google Cloud from 2015 to 2019, giving me deep experience with large-scale developer platforms and APIs. After taking a break from development, I recently graduated top of my class from Gauntlet AI's coding bootcamp at the beginning of this year, putting me firmly back in the development world with a fresh perspective on the 2025 developer experience.
As someone who has felt the pain when developer documentation isn't self-explanatory, doesn't have good sample applications, and makes developers feel dumb, I'm passionate about making the developer experience as good as possible. Especially in this age of AI, there's really no excuse for why there isn't detailed documentation about every aspect of an API, comprehensive support resources, and clear onboarding paths that respect developers' time and intelligence.
I'm a Proven Community Builder Across Diverse Ecosystems
I've built and managed communities across diverse domains, consistently turning niche concepts into mainstream movements. I have a proven track record of putting my mind and energy behind growing ecosystems and building excitement around transformative projects:
- Police brutality awareness: Grew one of the largest Facebook pages to 800,000 followers
- Tropical house music: Built a popular brand and booked breakthrough artists like Dom Dolla for his first US show
- Democracy reform: Built a youth nonprofit that trained thousands globally (years before Andrew Yang made democracy reform his focus)
- Web3: Secured support from Ethereum Foundation and Celo to train youth in how to use web3 for good, grew Gitcoin Passport user base substantially
- Airchat: Brought in hundreds of early users into Naval Ravikant’s voice-first social network (that has since shut down).
- Pop-up cities: Contributed to Zuzalu and launched Edge City
- AI and education: Orchestrated complex stakeholder events building excitement in Austin's tech scene
The pattern is clear: I identify transformative projects early and know how to build genuine excitement around them. I can do it again with Polymarket.
I'm Comfortable Representing Polymarket at the Highest Levels
Partnership building and ecosystem development requires working with very high-level people across institutions, government, and industry. I advise the White House faith office, I advise the Catholic Church in Rome, and I recently consulted for a billionaire in edtech. I'm very comfortable interacting with people at very high levels with great professionalism, which I believe is essential for representing Polymarket well in strategic partnerships and institutional relationships.
My Commitment
I'm not looking for just another developer relations role. I'm seeking the opportunity to help build the future of information discovery and truth-seeking through market mechanisms. My track record shows that when I believe in something, I don't just advocate for it - I help create movements around it.
I'd love to discuss how my experience building communities, managing technical partnerships, and creating authentic excitement around emerging technologies can help Polymarket reach its full potential as both a platform and a public utility.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Gary Sheng
