Introduction: The Ontological Crisis​

Most Christians today operate from truncated ontology - they believe in God but haven't systematically thought through what that means for understanding reality's fundamental structure. This leaves them vulnerable to deception, ineffective in culture, limited in impact, and confused about integrating faith with practical domains.

Christian ontology addresses fundamental questions: What exists? What is the nature of reality? How do all things relate to God? It provides operational framework for understanding existence within the reality that God, as Trinity, has created and sustains.

As one conversation participant noted: "I think that the Christianity that I want to promote and embody should include a lot more about ontology...if you're going to teach world history or American history how can you teach it without talking about...this whole layer of reality that absolutely shapes outcomes"

Core Ontological Principles​

God as Ground of All Being​

  • All created things exist because God, who is uncreated and necessary, gives them existence

  • What happened at conversion? What actual change occurred in my being when I became Christian?

  • Divine vs. natural vs. demonic? How do I discern sources of experiences and events?
  • Image of God implications? What does being "made in God's image" mean for human nature?

The opportunity before the church is to develop systematic Christian ontological education that equips believers at every level to understand and operate from the reality that God is the ground of all being, Christ is the center of history, and the Holy Spirit is actively present in material reality.

This is the foundation for building "heaven on earth" - not utopian fantasy, but practical communities and institutions that operate according to divine design rather than fallen alternatives.
