Cody Owens: A Street Preacher's Experiences of Healing & Miracles
Source: A Stronger Faith Podcast Date: 2025-10-03 Interview with: Cody Owens, street preacher and deliverance minister
Executive Summary
Cody Owens went from facing 80 years in prison to healing the sick on the streets through the power of Jesus. His radical transformation story challenges conventional Christian beliefs about who can operate in spiritual authority and demonstrates that the power promised in scripture is available to all believers, not just a special few.
The Awakening: From Crime to Christ
Facing 80 Years in Prison
Owens had two armed robbery charges with a potential maximum sentence of 80 years (40 years per charge). The mandatory minimum was 15 years with the toughest judge and prosecutor in the district.
"I remember I prayed that prayer upstairs in my room on the floor and I just didn't know any better. I just took my finger, stuck it in the Bible, and flipped it open, right? Expecting to hear what was going to happen with my life... It took me to Acts where Peter was led out of prison by the angel. And that brought such a peace and comfort to me in that season of my life."
The Miracle Verdict
After two years of court proceedings, instead of the mandatory minimum 15 years:
"When the verdict came across, it was one year house arrest, three years probation... It changed something for me because I recognized the goodness of God towards me when I know I deserve something else. And that's choking me up... I didn't deserve it, but yet his love. He loved me while I was his enemy."
First Healing: Tim at Aldi's
Owens describes his first healing experience after watching YouTube videos of healing:
"He tore something in his knee and it was going to take about 6 weeks or something to heal according to the doctor. And he was only at week one or two... I put my hand in. I said, 'Thank you, Father, for the pain's about to leave.' That's all I said... I put my hand on it again and I say the same exact thing. I don't change up. I don't switch it. I don't scream... Next thing you know, he's looking down and his eyes get all big. His mouth was open. He's like, 'Oh, I didn't think this was for real.'"
Personal Healing: Seven Exploded Arteries
Owens shares his own dramatic healing testimony:
"I had seven arteries explode in my spine. Large ones dumped into small ones. They said it was like a audio vanial malf for seven of them at the same time. All exploded in my spine. I lost use of everything below my waist... One leg shrunk."
His journey to healing:
"When they start talking about you never going you might not ever walk again. We have no idea what to do... I'm like, 'No, this ain't it. This ain't it.'... I go back get an MRI. They said, 'Well, six out of the seven ruptures in your spine have healed. Let us go in and operate on the last one.' I'm like, 'Not so. God took care of six. He'll take care of seven.'"
Revolutionary Teaching on Spiritual Authority
The Power Is In Every Believer
Owens challenges the common belief that healing is only for special people:
"That's a lie. He's the firstborn of many brethren, right?... We were sinners. We're not sinners saved by grace. Now we were sinners saved by grace. Now we're sons."
"He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit. He that sanctifies and he that is sanctified are of one... We have the mind of Christ."
On Who Has Authority
When asked if he thinks he has all power:
"Do you have Jesus? I could ask you, Stacy, do you have Jesus? Yeah, you do. Does Jesus live in you? Oh, yeah. Well, yeah, he does. Did he leave all of his power somewhere else? Like either he did or he didn't. So if he didn't leave his power somewhere else and he lives inside you and your spirit and his spirit have become one spirit then Stacy you have all power but it's not absent of God."
The Straw, Garden Hose, and Fire Hose Analogy
On releasing God's power:
"Let's say this whole table was covered in dirt, right? And I'm releasing the power... I take water through a straw and trying to clean the table. Well, good grief. The table's going to get clean, but man, it's going to take a while. Now, let's upgrade. We take a garden hose... Now imagine if we take a fireman's hose to this table. It's all water. It's about the mechanism of the release of that water."
On Healing and God's Will
It's Always God's Will to Heal
"I would say just always believe it's God's will... Jesus paid for it by his stripes, right? He paid for all the sins of the world, not just for the believer."
"Name one instance also in scripture where it says, 'And Jesus took a couple days off because he was sick.' Jesus wasn't sick, man... and he healed all the time."
The Problem with "Sickness as God's Will"
"We should be grateful to God in it and not for it. It's a difference because Lord, you're with me in it. You'll bring me through it, but you're not doing this to me. Because if he's doing it to me, am I not working against his will?"
Deliverance Ministry Insights
Demons Don't Have Legal Rights
"I don't believe in legal rights personally... If somebody has legal rights then they're no longer a thief. How am I a thief if I have legal rights? Now I've become the bad guy from coming to put you out of something that you have legal rights to. You don't have legal rights. What the enemy has is access."
Authority in Deliverance
"When you show up to a situation where somebody needs to be set free, authority has entered the room. You are the legal right because of Christ in you. No demon has that."
The Work of the Flesh vs. Demons
"Galatians 5 said, 'Now the works of the flesh are evident. They're manifest which are these.' And he names the whole gambit of things that we'll call a demon. But Paul says it's the work of the flesh."
The Role of Compassion
Owens shares a powerful story about learning compassion:
"Earlier I wasn't functioning. I wasn't postured in compassion. I'm like, 'Okay, look, my God's bigger than your God.'... But when I moved with compassion... a shattered knee was healed. And she ripped it off and she run around the bank."
Daily Life with God
Continuous Relationship
"It's all day. It's not necessarily a carved out time, you know? It's throughout the day. I could be watching a movie. I could be playing a video game and I have to be cognizant that God is always with me."
"Sometimes it's a dialogue, sometimes it's just an awareness. Like when I think about it, I think about it like Christ in the church, right? It's a husband and wife relationship."
Why Don't Christians See More Miracles?
Fear and Unbelief
"The problem is believing the lie... It's fear. Fear that I don't have the spirit of fear. God's given me power, love, and a sound mind. But if I operate with fear, I'm afraid. What if it don't work? You know what? What if I look crazy?"
The Need to Step Out
"They got to want it at least a little bit... You're worth me being obedient to. You're worth me looking like a fool. You're worth me taking time out of my day to inconvenience myself to deal with somebody you love."
Final Message
"Jesus paid a heavy price to bring us back into right relationship with the father. I think it's time that we acknowledge that and really honor what it is that he's done. And we honor what it is that he's done by accepting it and walking in what he says we can walk in. We can walk in freedom. We can walk in power. We can walk in authority. We can walk in love."
"As it says in 1 John 4:17, as he is, so are we in this world. So my life needs to reflect that. And if it's not, I need to shift some things to get my life to reflect that."
