Key Biographical Elements
Early Spiritual Journey
Born Again at 8, Transformed at 18:
"I was raised a Baptist, got born again when I was eight. But when I was 18, I had this encounter with the Lord. And I had become a religious Pharisee. And I was trusting in my goodness."
The Life-Changing Encounter:
"I saw the glory of God. And when I saw the glory of God, all of my self-righteousness was like filthy rags. So, I repented, spent an hour and a half in front of all of the leadership of the church and all of my friends confessing every sin... And I had a tangible love of God come over me for 40 something days or excuse me, four months, four and a half months really."
Vietnam Experience:
"I was drafted when I was uh 20. Spent my 21st birthday in Vietnam. I had 21 direct hits on my bunker uh on my 21st birthday. It was like the Vietnamese knew it was my birthday."
Theological Position: Between Faith and Grace
The Unique Balance
Neither Camp Fully Accepted Him:
"I was too much grace for the faith people. The faith people rejected me for 30 years... I used to be too much grace for the faith people and I was too much faith for the grace people. So, I spent 35 years or so just totally kind of like by myself."
The Biblical Foundation:
"Ephesians 2:8 says you're saved by grace through faith. You aren't saved by grace alone, and you aren't saved by faith alone. You're saved by the combination of the two."
Kenneth Copeland's Brother-in-Law's Assessment:
"He would always say, 'Your message is the balance between grace and faith.' And I happen to have a teaching on that, living in the balance of grace and faith."
Revolutionary Understanding of Faith
Faith as Already Possessed
The Paradigm Shift:
"The thing that really changed my life was uh when I got back I read 2 Corinthians 5:17... And it just dawned on me that I wasn't two parts just my physical body which I can see and feel and my mental emotional parts but there is a third part to me the spirit. And it's the spirit that got changed not my body and not my soul."
Identity in Spirit:
"In the spirit I am identical to Jesus. 1 John 4:17, as he is, so am I... And when I saw that everything I was trying to get in my flesh and in my soulish realm was already a reality in my spirit."
The Key Revelation:
"It's not a matter of me getting faith, getting healing, getting anointing, getting joy, love, joy, peace. It's already there. It's a matter of me renewing my mind and releasing what I've already got."
Faith vs. Formula
Against Formulas:
"I don't have a formula behind faith... The difference was I knew grace already. And so I would listen to things and when they would say things... they would take the faith message and just make a formula out of it and this is what you do and you do this and God has to do that. I knew that wasn't true."
Practical Applications: Healing and Medical Care
Personal Health Choices
Heart Attack Symptoms:
"About two and a half years ago... I had pain going down both arms. My chest was hurting and uh I got to where I couldn't walk more than 20 or 30 feet without resting. And I know that those are all symptoms of a heart attack, blocked arteries or something, but I wouldn't go to a doctor over that... And it took me about a year and I'm totally back to normal."
Personal Conviction vs. Judgment:
"I wouldn't criticize somebody else who did that. But I'm to a place to where I know that I've got raising from the dead power on the inside of me... That's my personal stance. And when people hear me say things like that, they sometimes if they don't have that faith, well then they try and imitate what I'm doing and they'll die, right? And that's wrong."
The Danger of Extreme Positions
The Tragic Example:
"There was a woman there with her child in a stroller... the baby was deformed about 9 years old in a diaper... And I felt like they weren't taking this this child to a doctor out of fear of negative confession, out of fear of um yeah, of not having faith or being perceived of not having faith."
Wommack's Response:
"It's not easy... There's lots of people like that that they are trying by faith to believe that they're healed and so they won't even acknowledge that they're fighting anything."
Profound Insights on Confession and Truth
The Spiritual vs. Physical Truth Principle
The Elisha Example:
"Elisha said unto him, 'Fear not. They that be with us are more than they that be with them.' Most people would call that like a faith statement of one of these faith people that just refuses to acknowledge the problem, right?... But there is a spiritual world... So what he was saying was true but it wasn't a physical truth. It was a spiritual truth."
The Wrong Approach:
"People who sit there and say no I don't have a gorder on my neck. That's a lie because they're denying physical truth. He never denied that the Syrians were there. He just believed that there was a greater truth in the spiritual realm."
The Right Approach:
"So if Jesus would have said Lazarus is dead and just left it there I think that wouldn't have been a faith statement but he said Lazarus is dead but I am glad so it just really depends on where you put your but... if you say, I have this pain, but the Bible says that by his stripes I'm healed, and that's what I'm going on. Well, then I think that's okay."
Miraculous Testimonies
Raising the Dead
His Son Peter:
"My oldest son met me at the door and he says, 'I don't know what happened, but just a few minutes after I called you, he just sat up and started talking.' He was in a morg. He had been in a morg for 4 hours, stripped naked in a freezer with a tow tag on, pronounced dead, and he sat up and started talking with no brain damage."
His Wife:
"I raised my son from the dead and he was dead for over four hours in a morg, stripped naked with a tow tag on a in a freezer and we raised him from the dead after he had been dead for over four hours."
Revolutionary Teaching on Prayer and Fasting
Prayer and Fasting Doesn't Cast Out Demons
The Misunderstood Passage:
"Prayer and fasting does not cast out demons. This is Matthew chapter 17 21... People interpret that as this kind of demon only goes out through prayer and fasting. But there is no demon that you will ever have to add prayer and fasting to the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is what cast demons out. Not prayer and fasting. Your prayer and fasting cast out that kind of unbelief."
Will Hart's Response:
"25 years. You're the first person I've ever heard say that. It's awesome. That's a great teaching. In 25 years, you're the first person I've ever heard say that."
Three Types of Unbelief:
"I put uh unbelief into three categories. There's an unbelief that's ignorance, and the antidote to that is the truth. There's an unbelief that is caused not by ignorance, but by wrong teaching, and the answer to that is still the truth. But it takes more effort to erase the unbelief and then put the right stuff in. But then there's a type of unbelief that's just like Peter taking his attention off of Jesus and seeing the wind and the waves."
Ministry Leadership and Humility
Massive Global Impact
Current Scale:
"We have about over a hundred million a year is what our budget is... we have 22 offices including the United States. We have, I think, 59 Bible schools scattered around the world... we have probably about 9,000 people I think at any one time that is going through our Caris Bible College... television wise, we have 6.5 billion people that can watch my program on a daily basis."
Delegation Through Humility:
"How can you delegate so easily?' And it's because I don't have an inflated opinion of myself. And I do I am not as good at things as they are and as other people that work for me... The people that work for me are much more qualified than I am."
Financial Challenges and Faith
Recent Crisis:
"We were 6 million behind in our calendar year... we took out a $1.5 million line of credit to pay our employees... I took out this $1.5 million line of credit and it really grieved me... But two weeks ago, I just sent out a thing and I said, 'Look, this grieves me to do this... we've had about $4 million come in."
Casting Cares on the Lord:
"The way you can tell if you're humble is is your care cast over on the Lord. If you're taking care about things, if you're worrying about it, if you're staying up at night, it's because you haven't humbled yourself."
Doctrinal Positions
Once Saved, Always Saved - "Kind of"
Nuanced Position:
"I believe that you're you cannot sin away salvation... So I don't believe you can send salvation away but you could reject it... if you become mature then you could reject your salvation. So sin doesn't send you doesn't cause you to lose your salvation, but sin will harden your heart."
Age of Accountability
Biblical Foundation:
"Romans 7 says that I was alive without the law once but when the commandment came sin revived and I died... until the law comes and and there is a place when a child knows that they have not violated their parents' commands, but they've vi they've sinned against God. Whenever that time comes, some people call that the age of accountability."
Suffering and Persecution
Distinguishing Types of Suffering
Redeemed vs. Not Redeemed:
"There's a lot of suffering that is self-inflictedness and that kind of suffering we are redeemed from. But as far as persecution, we aren't redeemed from that... you aren't redeemed from sickness, from poverty, depression, oppression, those kind of things. But u we aren't redeemed from persecution."
Paul's Thorn in the Flesh:
"When Paul was talking about removing the thorn in the flesh, that wasn't sickness. That was a demonic messenger that persecuted him... There's three times in the Old Testament that it says, 'If you don't get rid of the people, they'll become pricks in your eyes and thorns in your side.'"
Life Lessons and Maturity
Patience Through Experience
57 Years of Ministry:
"I'd say probably the biggest change would be patience. I used to be very impatient and as you mature in the Lord, you just see the Lord come through so many millions of times that over a period of time you just get patient... It will get done."
No Desire to Go Back:
"I have people come to me all the time and they'll hear about some of the stuff we've been through and they'll say, 'Man, I'm glad you didn't quit.' My my immediate response is, man, I'm glad I didn't quit, right?... it is so much easier now than it used to be."
The Foundation of Success
Seeking First the Kingdom:
"The only thing I claim that I'm good at is just seeking the Lord and keeping my the first thing, the main thing, the main thing. That's what I do."
Key Takeaways
